I do wonder, why are people so against what is popular? Lots of people dislike popular Samantha or blondes or Barbie or whatnot. Going against the grain just to go against the grain is just as silly as going with the crowd just to go with the crowd, KWIM? I mean, I can see doing what you like, really like, but not what's popular/unpopular simply because it's popular/unpopular. *shrugs* Anyway......

People have every right to dislike the popular, but disliking the popular just because it's popular is like disliking the unpopular just because it's unpopular. It's like not giving something a chance because it may be getting more attention than you may want it to. That's all I'm saying.
I must wonder if the people who dislike the popular because it receives more attention or is more popular than something else are jealous of that popular thing?

But I would like too think a lot of people are above that.

Just because people don't like a certain thing it DOES NOT mean they just want attention.
They may get attention, but it's not just because they're trying to.
Most of the people that disagree with whatever they disagree about have some pretty thought out explanations too.
And for you to say that they JUST want attention it's true.

Personally, I think some people DO hate popular becuase it's popular. Or choose to do/follow something uncommon because it's uncommon. I know because in my late teens I fell into that mode of thinking. I would say that people who do this have another issue they're acting out on. Maybe they were treated as being different so now they decide to run with it. Or they want attention but keep finding negative ways to attract it. Not all, but some.

I don't think people are that desperate for attention. If they are then that's just plain pitiful. The thought of that is too..........
Like I said, I would like to think that people are ABOVE <u>THAT</u>.
I'm not saying EVERYONE is jealous of the attention the popular thing is getting or going against the grain just to go against the grain, but a lot of people do. People seem too interested in what society thinks. They will let that influence them (either for or against something) maybe in a direction they would not go in on their own. I'm not a fan of groupthink. I think people should make their own decisions.
Now, I'm not saying that society influencing people is always a bad thing. For example someone may be influenced not to murder because their society says it's taboo. (Some societies don't define revenge murders as "murders", for example so it is allowed.) But if people's identities (likes/dislikes) are lost, well, that's really not fair to that person or to anyone else.

I've had to change names a few times due to a stalking problem, and I prefer to use the same name everywhere. Confusing to others, yes, but not to me. [img]biggrin.gif[/img]
